Cleveland, OH. - On Saturday, October 8, 2022, The Black Women Commission of Cuyahoga County and the Women Commission for Education and Training voted to support the Garfield Heights Teachers' Association.

The teachers have been working without a contract since June 30, 2022. The Garfield Heights School Board is delaying the process. Both parties are supposed to be working with a Federal Mediator. It is our understanding that the GHSB is not cooperating. As a result, the teachers may strike.

"At the end of the day, our children will be impacted. This is a methodology to "pipeline to prison". When our children are not being educated, there is only one alternative. The ladies of BWCCC and WCET can not afford to sit and remain silent. We are urging the the School Board to return to the table for fair negotiations. We sent the Board a letter of urgency and cooperation. To be clear, we are also planning next steps ," said Kimberly F. Brown. Brown is the President of the BWCCC.

According to Brown, a press conference is pending based upon the actions of the Board the week of 10/10/2022.
