She asked "are you William Steele"? The man replied, "I am". He looked at her as he pierced her soul with a smile of empowerment. He asked her if she would like to select a new name to mark her freedom. The woman replied yes. She stated, "well my momma is called Rit and her name is Harriet. My husband's name is John Tubman. I want my mother and husband's name. Harriet Tubman. She said, "Harriet Tubman".

As the women of The Black Women Commission and the National Congress of Black Women came together as one for an evening of excellence, they celebrated the victory of other Black Women who won their 2019 election. These women beat every odd that stood before them. Most managed to beat incumbents both black and white males. This evening at the Hawkens Mansion located in Cleveland, OH these women showed a sense of solidarity as they stood firm on Friday, January 24, 2020 with a strong promise to join forces to help move Cuyahoga County forward.

Congratulations Women of Power for you did what many could not; share in the success on one another free of envy, jealousy and spite!

On behalf of the Black Women Commission of Cuyahoga County we salute the Black Woman as well as the National Congress of Black Women for an event well done!
