Village of Newburgh Heights Adopt Saniyah's AWE LAW

The Black Women Commission of Cuyahoga County Salute Mayor Trevor Elkins and the Village of Newburgh Heights. The Village is the first suburb in the inner ring of Cleveland, Ohio to adopt the Saniyah's AWE Law


Making History; September 17, 2019


Mayor Trevor Elkins and the Village of Newburgh Heights city Council Passed the Saniyah's AWE LAW.


The Saniyah AWE LAW is Local Codified Ordinance Section 1335.07. Entitled the Identification of High Crime Areas. The AWE LAW is a THREE PART Transferable Safety Tool. It's about maintaining safety for the entire community. The AWE; AWARENESS, WARNING, EMERGENCY.


9 year-old Saniyah was killed by gun fire on June 20, 2018 by a stray bullet as she sat in her mom's car eating ice-cream. Seven males are facing consequences for their actions. Saniyah's trial will begin on October 15, 2019.


Mayor Georgine Welo of South Euclid also wrote a letter of support!

Mayor Elkins.
